Gender Equality Center

Gender Equality Center (GEC) is an academic center established in 2011 with supported funding provided by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID). The center has also received similar supported funding from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The project is a partnership between the University of Bristol (Centre for Gender and Violence Research) and the University of Sulaimaniya in Iraqi Kurdistan Region. At first, the GEC was based at the Sociology Department and it was supposed to be part of the department. Later in 2014 it became  an independent center associated to the Presidential Office of the University
